News - Adams Food Competition

The Westwood final of the High Schools Adams Food Competition was held on Wednesday 22nd May.

The students involved were asked to create a recipe which included Adam’s Pilgrim’s Choice Cheese and be suitable to sell in the Adams canteen. The Food Club, run by Mrs Bebington on Wednesday nights, had run several weeks of trials and experiments running up to the final.

The Year 10 winner was Ben Thomas S4 with his Bacon and Cheese savoury pasties. It was a close tie between Tom and Joe Aston’s (S4) Ham and Tomatoe Stronboli and Declan Cooke’s (L3) Cheese and Onion flatbread.

The Year 9 winner was Francesca Picucci, J4 with her Caramelised Red Onion Apple and Pilgrim’s Choice Extra Mature Cheddar Cheese Tart in a shortcrust cheese pastry base. Shelby Nixon S1, also impressed the judges with her variations on Carbonara.

Both the Year 9 and year 10 winners will go on to the Inter-school final to be held at Adams Foods in the test kitchen with their resident chef on the 20th June. There we will be up against our new friends and rivals, Leek High school.

The overall winner will have their product produced and marketed by Adams, initially to try out in their impressive new canteen.

We are hoping for Year 10 Food Technology students to be able to visit Adams in the near future, to see the state-of-the-Art Food company in operation looking at how Quality control and Hygiene in a modern factory are being implimented.  Look out for new Club sessions in the coming months where everyone can have a chance to learn cooking skills, as ingredients can be provided in ‘The Lets Get Cooking’ sessions.
