News - Year 9 Enterprise Days

Year 9 students recently participated in Enterprise Days in college as part of the Enterprise unit within PSHE.  This year the activities were organised around a Dragon’s Den theme and the students were supported throughout by local businesses.  The theme of the day was based around designing a product to promote Westwood College.  Each team had a ‘Dragon’ as a mentor and master classes on topics such as Design, Planning, Production, Costing and how to plan the final presentation were given throughout the event.  The local businesses represented at the event were Britannia, Croda, Leek College, North Staffordshire Engineers Group, Rackety’s and Marley’s.  Throughout the two days the business volunteers supported the students in the planning of their product and also acted as ‘Dragons’ when the ideas were presented.  All students had a role to play and they learnt about the many different aspects of a business.  Follow up sessions are now taking place in Enterprise lessons.  None of the business mentors have volunteered to become teachers on a permanent basis!!  Our thanks go out to all who supported a very successful event and to Tina Rumble from Staffordshire Partnership who helped to co-ordinate it.
