Three Westwood College Sixth Form students, Annie Hitchen, Issy Hinton and Francesca Picucci, are to be commended on recently receiving their Silver CREST awards for a Scientific Communication Project.  CREST is a UK award scheme which recognises success, building skills and demonstrating personal achievement in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) project work.

The project required each to undertake 30 hours independent work to investigate the topic of stem cells and communicate to a target audience. They utilised PowerPower, video, leaflets and surveys in their presentation and collated the project in a report format.

The three students achieved the highest possible ‘distinction’ grade and the STEM Co-ordinator ‘was very impressed with the content and style of the project, so much so that [he] would like to let the British Science Association have a copy of all parts of the project’, even suggesting the students enter the project for judging at the next regional ‘Big Bang’ event.

Subsequently, the girls’ project was submitted to the British Association for the Advancement of Science which is a significant achievement for which they should be congratulated.
