News - Leek Federation Sixth Form hold a ‘Big Chin Wag’

SONY DSCTuesday 18 November saw students from the Leek Federation Sixth Form hold their biggest community event yet: a sumptuous afternoon tea for Leek’s pensioners.  The event was organised by Rebecca Overend, a Year 13 Student Leader at Westwood College, one of the College’s Sixth Form Leaders.  Becky said: ‘We saw the Age UK campaign to raise money to help projects tackling loneliness in old people.  We wanted to go one step further and invite our older residents in for their very own afternoon tea!  Our next project is a pie and pea supper with live music.’

SONY DSCTracy Bamber, Manager of Mount Pleasant Sheltered Accommodation said: ‘The residents had a fantastic time, and really appreciated being invited, they were really impressed with the event and are looking forward to the next one.’

Dan Owen, Director of the Leek Federation Sixth Form said: ‘It’s great to see young people with such passion for their community. The afternoon tea was a great success, there was plenty of conversation, and a good time was had by all. We are really grateful to Waitrose for sponsoring it by providing the refreshments.’
