57% A*-B: Record Breaking A Level Results!

Congratulations to all of Westwood Sixth’s Y13 students who have gained record breaking results, with 57% of them securing A*, A or B grades.

As one of Staffordshire’s top performing Sixth Forms we are well used to our students doing well, but this year their efforts have produced something a little bit special.

Across the board students have applied themselves with determination and perseverance and with the commitment and inspiration of their teachers and support and patience of their families they have been rewarded with the strongest set of level 3 examination results the College has yet seen.

With 57% of all examination entries returning a grade of A*, A or B, Westwood students performed well in excess of the national average and at levels that allow them access to all the top universities. Particularly pleasing was performance in History, Physics and RE where 100% of the students achieved either grade A*, A or B. In Chemistry this figure was 85%, Biology 78%, Maths 82% and Further Maths 83%. In Maths over a third of the students gained the highest possible grade of A*.

We take pride in being an inclusive College and at all levels of ability our students can celebrate results they can be very proud of. Congratulations go to the following A Level students who all achieved at least 3 A grades (or equivalent); Adam Arshad (A*A*A*A), Tom Bestwick (A*AB), Jack Birch (AAAB), Eleanor Bouchier (AAAB), Emma Claydon (A*AAB), James Davies (A*AB), Mary Evenden (AAAA), Michael Foster (A*AA), Beth Haigh (A*AB), Helena Hargreaves (A*A*A), David Sheldon (A*AB) and Michael Simpson (A*AAA).

The results for our Level 3 Vocational courses were outstanding with a pass rate of 100% and in Health and Social Care 83% of the students gained a double distinction or better. This includes Megan Barlow, Gemma Beardmore, Ashleigh Bowyer, Beth Grundy, Oliver Gwilt, Kirstie Hayes, Marnie Hunt, Holly-May Machin, Charlotte Owen and Chloe Roberts. In OCR Sport James Buxton, Tom Taylor and James Upton also achieved this level of performance.

Performance at this level enables students to progress to an almost limitless range of opportunities. The list of Higher Education destinations for our students this year is every bit as impressive as their results and includes Birmingham (Medicine), Bath (Civil Engineering), Leeds (Theatre and Performance), Sheffield (Mechanical Engineering), Loughborough (Sport and Exercise Science), York (English), Liverpool (Law), Salford (Nursing), Leicester (History), Nottingham (Archaeology), York (History and Politics), Manchester (Neuroscience), Nottingham (Mental Health Nursing), Nottingham (American Studies) Leeds Trinity (Sports Journalism).

We are absolutely delighted to see so many students do so well. Many congratulations to you all.
