News - Rotary Young Chef competition

SONY DSCEight aspiring Westwood College chefs recently entered the Rotary Young Chef competition to showcase their culinary expertise and delight a panel of discerning judges.

All entrants designed, arranged and presented a mouth-watering two course meal displaying gastronomic flair, enthusiasm and attention to detail.

The contestants were Archie Bettany, Molly Riley, Dexter Hammonds, Leonie Law, Olivia Willshaw, Daniel Scriven, Jack Porter and Shelly Liang.Young Chef.jpg.10

The competition proved an enormous challenge given it was judged by members of the Leek Rotary Club, professional chef Mr Chris Rooney, Mr Stuart Jones and Mrs Caroline Bebington.  Not only was the quality of food under review, the judges voted on presentation of the dishes and the way in which the tables were displayed.

YC MollieThe standard of cooking and exhibition was extremely high.  Overall winner was Archie, Molly being runner-up, both of whom progress to the District Semi-Finals with Dexter achieving first reserve.

Mr Rooney is visiting Westwood College’s Year 10 Food Technology students to demonstrate finishing and polishing skills and, for the above mentioned three students, as preparation for the Semi-Final.
