News - Staffordshire Moorlands District Under 14 girls rounders.

The Staffordshire Moorlands District Under 14 Girls rounders tournament took place at Westwood College on 19 June 2014, the team consisted of Shannon Arteaga-Bruce, Sara Cruttenden, Kelsey Jenkinson,  Olivia Tomkinson, Finley Adams, Xenia Balderstone, Anna Parker, Rachel Rhead, Kelly Hodgkinson,  Jade Hall, Jemma Dawson, Olivia Cuminsky, Emma Robinson and Sophie Fallows.

There was a large turn out of Year 9 girls allowing many options with which to play.

Westwood’s initial game was against Endon, although losing a few big hitters early in the match, the girls displayed a steady performance and won with a score of 6-3.

The second game was versus Moorside who employed some very strong batters, initially looking a threat after achieving a number of early points. However, our fielders quickly adapted using excellent communication which enabled them to play more effectively to halt further scoring. Our girls won this game 5-3, Jade Hall was worthy of particular praise as she bravely intercepted a Moorside batter at fourth base, preventing a rounder.

Westwood were defeated in the third and fourth games, however, the margin was very close in the third, there being only half a rounder against Biddulph (2 1/2 – 3).  Unfortunately, the loss unsettled the girls who lost in the final match against Thomas Alleynes with a score of 7-4 1/2.

Congratulations to the team who displayed excellent conduct and great sportsmanship.
