News - Students achieve Chemistry success.

Chemistry Olympiad

20 Year 12 and Year 13 Chemistry students recently entered the highly regarded RSC Chemistry Olympiad.  This is a national competition which provides an opportunity to stretch and test post-16 students studying Chemistry by tasking them to undertake a challenging written assessment of their chemical knowledge.

Significantly, two Year 12 students, Rupert Eardley and Dave Kay, were awarded a bronze certificate. Year 13 Peter Aston achieved a gold certificate, placing him in the top 7% in the country.

“All students who undertook the Chemistry Olympiad found it an extremely challenging experience. The three students who have been awarded certificates should be incredibly proud of their achievement placing them amongst the brightest minds of their age in the country” as stated by Mr Mycock, Head of Chemistry.

Young Analyst Competition

Three Year 12 Chemistry students attended the Midlands Final of the RSC Young Analyst Competition at Keele University where they completed against schools from throughout the Midlands, undertaking experiments such as ascertaining the iron content of Iron Bru.

The students finished fourth overall out of ten teams,  missing out by only four points on a trip to the National Final in Aberdeen.

Congratulations to all students on their commendable achievements.
