News - UK Senior and Intermediate Mathematics Challenges.

Westwood College Sixth Form students entered the Senior Mathematics Challenge in November 2014.  This is a National competition held by The UK Mathematics Trust in conjunction with The University of Leeds whereby senior students take a series of challenging questions under test conditions to ascertain their problem solving knowledge and capacity.

This year, Westwood College students obtained particularly impressive results, Peter Aston, Dayle Corden, Mark Cooper and Abi Smith achieving gold certificates, Peter and Dayle qualifying for the Senior Kangaroo paper which is the next round of the test, Mark qualifying for the British Olympiad paper given his superb performance in the Challenge.

In addition, there were 10 silver and 15 bronze certificates awarded which is a significant achievement given the difficulty of the testing process.

Similarly, the Intermediate Mathematics Challenge is principally the same aimed at Years 9 to 11 students.  Again, Westwood students achieved 13 silver and 18 bronze certificates, of note, Ben Crawford achieved the silver accolade and, due to his outstanding performance, progressed to the Grey Kangaroo paper which is the next round of the test.

Congratulations to all students on their remarkable achievements.
